Projects
Research & things I build
Research programs, hardware, open tools for running experiments, and the engineering side projects that keep my skills sharp.

Brain MRI × driving safety with interpretable ML
Voxel-based morphometry of structural MRI in cohorts of older drivers assessed on actual vehicles, combined with cross-validated feature selection (RFECV), regression, and SHAP explanations to identify gray-matter biomarkers of real-world driving safety — with a DBQ-based study of driving tendencies published in Frontiers in Human Neuroscience (2026).
Research · Large cohorts
Gray-matter correlates of fatigue & ADHD traits
Large-scale VBM studies in thousands of healthy adults, linking regional gray matter volume to physical and mental fatigue (including differences between desk and non-desk workers), adult ADHD traits, and real-world traffic crashes.
Research · Ongoing
Fitts' Law × EEG with age simulation
An EEG research line on motor aging: comparing motor execution in virtual and real environments toward multimodal modeling with Fitts' Law (presented at IEEE EMBS NER 2025), with LSL-synchronized pipelines, age-simulation suits, and a PRISMA-ScR scoping review pre-registered on OSF.
Research · Hardware
Air-based interaction: pneumatic input & haptics
My doctoral research line: input and haptic-feedback devices driven by air, including the AirSqueeze game controller, the Air-Vis physical display, and fMRI-compatible interfaces built from non-ferromagnetic materials and evaluated on a 3.0 T scanner.
Software · Open tool
Browser-based research questionnaire platform
A self-contained web platform for administering validated instruments (EHI, ATI, IPAQ, SSQ, KSS, NASA-TLX, SEQ, SUS) as a single HTML file hosted on GitHub Pages, with responses collected through a Google Apps Script backend. No installs, no servers.
Research · Hardware
Gamified music step sensor box
A symmetrical hardware-software system that turns stepping exercise into a music game, designed to make physical activity more engaging. Published in Electronics (2023) from the Keimyung University collaboration.
Research · Networked systems
DDS discovery protocols for mission-critical systems
Bloom-filter-based discovery and QoS configuration for the Data Distribution Service in large naval networks, cutting the memory and traffic cost of node discovery. Master's research published in Computer Standards & Interfaces and IEEE ETFA.
Side project · Web app
Kakeibo — household finance tracker
A kakeibo-style personal finance web app built with React that parses Japanese receipts using a vision language-model API, turning paper receipts into categorized spending records automatically.
Side project · Infrastructure
Self-hosted homelab
A headless Debian server running Docker services (cloud storage, media, and expense tracking) behind Cloudflare Tunnel, with a Tailscale mesh connecting two sites, NAS-backed storage, and automated off-site backups.
Side project · Education
おうちプリント — kids' worksheets
Open printable A4 math and science worksheets for elementary grades 4–5, handmade and free for any family to download and print. Started for my own children. Japanese only, with its own blueprint-style design.
